We wear caps during summer and the baseball season, bonnets for when the weather is a bit cold or winter. We also use jackets, umbrella, trench coat, and boots during rainy season. Why do we wear this stuff aside from just getting good looks?? It is to protect ourselves from certain illnesses.

During rainy season, I use a jacket that I got from some designer clothes to avoid getting flu. I also use boots to avoid getting Leptospirosis (a bacterial infection that is transmitted through direct contact with water, food, or soil containing urine from an infected animal.). Mind you that this disease is infectious. I also use an umbrella to avoid getting wet. What else could be the reason, eh? Just kidding, but seriously it also helps me protect me from getting any flu.

I use my cap whenever I want to go out, especially when the weather is hot. I hate it when my head is burned. The bonnet, on the other hand, is used for cold weather (Tropics) and winter season. During winter season, my cousin told me to use a bonnet that will cover my ears along with my ear plugs. You know why he said that? He said “so that my ears won’t come off”. Since then, I make sure that I wear my bonnet every time I visit them during the winter season. My cousin recommended me to get this Men’s cap hats coz it will come in handy. I thought it was a joke or something. But it turned out to be serious. This stuff are really handy!

Soft Drinks or Hard Drinks

Which would you prefer, soda or some hard drinks?? Those who want it better ditch it! Why? Here's why:

"Recent research has shown that artificial sweeteners in soda may interfere with your body’s ability to estimate how many calories you’ve ingested, so you eat more than you need. In a new rat study, animals that ate fake sugar consumed more calories overall and gained weight, compared to those that didn’t eat artificially sweetened treats. According to the researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, the risk of becoming overweight can rise by 37 percent everytime you sip diet soda on a daily basis."

So who needs some soda? Everybody knows that soda contains a lot of sugar, and I mean A LOT! It doesn't even contain any nutrients. In short, it doesn't help us at all. If you want to stay healthy and live a long life, then you better stop drinking some pop.

Source: http://health.yahoo.com/experts/healthieryou/371/skip-the-diet-soda/

Earth Hour

Got this through Email, and I hope you guys will join.

On 29 March 2008 the Philippines will join countries around the world as we literally "turn the lights out" for Earth Hour - an event that will fuel awareness on climate change and prove that when the people of the world work together, they can make a difference in the fight against global warming. So I'm sharing this message from my e-mail through this blog..

This was forwarded to me. If you love drinking DIET coke, DIET pepsi, or DIET anything...please read this! Better safe than sorry...

People, take care of your health! In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick. She had stomachspasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a majorchore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in somuch pain.

By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies andwas on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determinewhat was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick.she just knewshe was dying.. She put her house, bank accounts, lifeinsurance, etc., inher oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger childrenwere to be taken care of.

She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida(basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd .

On March 19 I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and shesaid they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS.

I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sisterif she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, shewas getting ready to crack one open that moment.I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda!I e-mailed her the article m y friend, a lawyer, had sent.

My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and toldme she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk! The musclespasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but she sure felt a lotbetter. She told me she was going to her doctor with this article andwould call me when she got home.

Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to callall of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweetenersof any kind.

In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the dietsoda...and literally dying a slow and miserable death. When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, andthat was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to acomplete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair!

This article saved her life. If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCEon "ASPARTAME," marketed as 'NutraSweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.' In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the UnitedStates in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemiclupus.

It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this tobe rampant.I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of thissweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts toformaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolicacidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. Themethanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosisand systemic lupus. Many people were being diagnosed in error.

Althoughmultiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is!Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually doesnot know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threateningcondition.

We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken offdiet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptomsdisappear. We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearingloss improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia.During a lecture, I said, "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSwe et,Equal,Splenda,Stevia, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgiasymptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss youprobably have ASPARTAME poisoning!"

People were jumping up during the lecture saying, "I have some of thesesymptoms. Is it reversible?"Yes! Yes! Yes! STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on foodlabels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem.Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to besymptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice, a nursestated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had allbeen diagnosed with MS.

This is beyond coincidence!Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multipleSODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes youcrave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!

These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxinand is used primarily to preserve "tissue specimens." Many products we useevery day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!

Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the "dietproducts" and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lostan average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient withretinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the bloodsugar out of control. Thus diabetics maysuffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid andphenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acidsnecessary for a good balance. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.

Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier, it then deteriorates the neuronsof the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic depression, panic attacks, uncontrollable anger and rage.Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics aswell.

Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of childrendiagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in theirbehavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet. So called"behavior modification prescription drugs" (Ritalin and others) are nolonger needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the firstplace! Most of these children were being "poisoned" on a daily basis withthe very foods that were "better for them than sugar."

It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of dietCoke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, maybe partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome. Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.

Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners. There are many different case histories torelate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurologicaldisturbances talking about a plague of neurological diseases directlycaused by the use of this deadly poison.

"Herein lies the problem:There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included 100different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Sincethis initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and stillnothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deeppockets.

Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED!There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadlychemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a"piece of the Aspartame pie." I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the AmericanDiabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conferenceof the American College of Physicians?

This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. The trade frenzy was triggered when Pau Gasol was traded to Lakers with a number of mediocre players. It's obvious that the Suns reacted to that trade by acquiring Shaquille O'neal for "The Matrix" Shawn Marion. Then Dallas signed Jason Kidd for Devin Harris and a couple more. Then right before the trading deadline ends, the Cavaliers pulled another huge trade by acquiring Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, and Delonte West for Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, and some other guys. Due to those huge trades, a so-so team instantly became a championship contender and a force to reckon with in the NBA, which makes everything a lot more exciting. I can't wait for the play-offs to begin.

Healthy Food!!

While browsing the internet, I decided to search for some healthy food that I will suggest my sister to cook this sunday. It was a very emotional game for everyone who played and for all the people who watched the game. That game was the return of the great Earvin "MAGIC" Johnson. People voted for him into this All Star game even though he didn't play a single minute during that season. Magic retired on 1991 due to the HIV virus he obtained.

People were cheering "Magic! Magic! Magic!" the moment his name was called. During the game itself, it was like vintage Magic Johnson. No-look pass, Behind the back, Bullet Pass betwenn two opponents, everything was simply magical. He even played 1-on-1 against Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas. And guess what, Magic won!!! At the end of the game, Magic collected 25 points and 9 Assists leading the West squad to victory. He was named the MVP of that certain all star game. But he won, not only the MVP award, but also the hearts of all the people who witnessed that Magical Game.

I am correct, NBA.com also named that game the best ever All-Star game.

http://www.nba.com/features/allstar_memories_johnson.html

Free Concert!!!

Are you familiar with Moony?? Last year, my teammates said that he scored 76 points in one game at the Alumni league.. So I think we will be having our hands full with this guy on the hard-court... Hehehe.. There we were, 5 of us against a complete team that are composed of 12 players. Only 4 of our star players did not play namely Al Magpayo, Michael Baldos, Victor Queyquep, and BJ Chiu. Good thing that One of our big man showed up, Martin Antonio. We played the whole game without any fresh legs to replace us. Meaning, there is no rest. We played our running game despite the depleted line up and won the game by only five points. Those five players all got double digits on the scoreboard. Though with a depleted line up, we got more fighting spirit compared to the opposing team. We outrebounded, outscored, and outran them the entire game. Take note, they are not that old compared to us. I guess, they became to relaxed thinking we will get tired easily. Hehehe.. Kudos for us!!!

Why couples don't have sex... It is healthy gor Faith and Relationship with God.. Furthermore, it gives us a peace of mind, therefore lessening stress which is good.. Haha.. Here we go... ENJOY!!!

5 Reasons Why God Uses Problems
The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you - depending on how you respond to them. Unfortunately, most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring. Here are five ways God wants to use the problems in your life:

1. God uses problems to DIRECT you. Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways.
2. God uses problems to INSPECT you. People are like tea bags...if you want to know what's inside them, just drop them into hot ever water! Has God tested your faith with a problem. What do problems reveal about you? When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience.

3. God uses problems to CORRECT you. Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It's likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove. But you probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something... health, money, a relationship. .. by losing it. "It was the best thing! that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws."

4. God uses problems to PROTECT you. A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem - but it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a! year later when management's actions were eventually discovered. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good."

5. God uses problems to PERFECT you.Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort. Your relationship with God and your character are the only two things you're going to take with you into eternity. We can rejoice when we run into problems... they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.

Here's the point:
God is at work in your life - even when you do not recognize it or understand it. But it's much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him. Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned, lives touched and moments shared along the way.

Touch a heart, leave a hope,stroke a faith and lend a hand.
Live simply, expect little, give much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others...... ....

2nd placer... Not bad

By reading the title of this post, it is clear that we are the losers of the championship game last saturday. Freethrows! Freethrow! Freethrows! Thats what killed us. We missed more than 15 freethrows in the fourth quarter alone, therefore costing us the game. I could relate this game to a song, though I can't remember its title. I think the verse goes something like this "I did my best, but I guess my best wasn't good enough"... In my opinion, we should have a good coach next time. Not that I didn't like the way we were handled by our playing coach, especially in the shuffling of players, we could have done a lot better.

Here is a pic, where boss rico and I blocked a shot from a driving opponent. I blocked the shot from behind... Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. 2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. 4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors. 5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system. 6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. 8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. 9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. 10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. 11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. CANCER CELLS FEED ON: a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply </ span> to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt. b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off &n bsp; milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer cells are being starved. c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C). e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine.Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified &nb sp;water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it. 12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup. 13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells. 1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave. John Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead. This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.

From John Hopkins Hospital

A Win and another SHOT!!

At last, we won over a powerhouse team in makati last Oct. 13. It was a low scoring game due to the tight defense that are being imposed by both teams. We won with a score of 54-47. Heck, the refs are allowing it to become a highly physical game. in my opinion, the refs are rooting for the other team. Imagine, we committed 9 fouls in just 1 quarter compared to a single foul of the opposing team. We are bumped, bruised, and some are even injured due to the non-calls of the ref. Oh well, those things are brakes of the game. Atleast we won right. I'll post some pics of our game later.

Desperate Housewives 9/30/07

From a blog that I read, it is said that there was this episode from desperate housewives that Terry Hatcher is being a racist. Did you know that beer or any hard drinks are healthier than soft drinks (i.e. Coke, Sprite)?? Beer and hard drinks are fermented, which makes it healthy drink. Don't know the exact details yet, but the fact that it is fermented makes it safe for us to drink. That is its positive side, while the soft drinks will give you what? Diabetes is one. As for me, it is better to drink Beer or any hard drinks rather than soft drinks...

Now for the topic... Hehe.. What is the best beer around?? Redhorse, SanMig Light, Pale Pilsen, Strong Ice, Coors Light, Colt 45, Miller, etc... For me, I'd go for the Red Horse.. Its sweet and has a strong effect. I mean really strong.. Some people say, after eating at a chinese restaurant (where they often use MSG), that they feel dizzy. Well, thats dangerous especially when you are about to drive home. MSG is also found in most fost foods that we buy, canned goods for example. It is like a POISON that slowly kills the people around the world. Yes it is time to mourn, but that doesn't mean that we have to stop training. Look on th bright side, now we have 4 years to prepare instead of just 5 months for another Olympic shot. Who knows, maybe we can beat the hell out of Yao Ming and his crew. In my opinion, I would like the team to remain intact with Coach Chot at helm. I really like to give him another shot at that. It was the Final Four, and the Green Archers won, 74-57, to reach the finals. La Salle beat Ateneo in all three meetings that year.
For Ateneo coach Norman Black, it was his first win over La Salle and its coach Franz Pumaren, his former assistant in the PBA
“Yes, that’s right. This is my first win over La Salle as a coach. It feels good,” said Black, who never ran out of heroes in the 45-minute ballgame played as if the world was at stake.
“We dedicate this win to the school, to our supporters who stayed behind us even if we didn’t do well against La Salle in the last few games,” said Black.
The victory pushed Ateneo up in the standings at 4-1, just barely behind unbeaten University of the East at 4-0. The loss, meanwhile, was the second straight for La Salle, which took a bad loss to UE last Sunday.
Ateneo, from its big men to the little ones, was just more determined to win this one, holding their ground against JV Casio’s one-man show in the final quarter.
“We just showed a lot of desire, and a lot of hunger to win. We did a good job rebounding, too. We ran into a team that’s very difficult to beat,” added the Ateneo mentor.
Cliff Arao, Jobe Nkemakolam, Rabeth Al-Hussaini manned the paint for Ateneo while Kurt Long, Jai Reyes and Chris Tiu provided the spark, the latter sinking the clincher, a triple from left wing with just 9.9 ticks left.
But still, it was Reyes, nephew of former Blue Eagle and now RP team head coach Chot Reyes, who carried the fight for Ateneo. He had 18 points, two rebounds, six assists and a steal in just 26 minutes.
Casio, a member of the previous teams that won the title for La Salle, scored 15 points in the third period, all of them coming in a 21-16 run that tied the game at 65-all late in regulation.

Source: http://www.philstar.com/

Sponsors of RP Team

I know that Nike and SMC are the major sponsors of Team Pilipinas that will play this July 28- Aug. 4 at Tokushima. This team will vie for an Olympic slot in Beijing next year. I was wondering, other than this major sponsors that they have, who else have sponsored the team?? For example, what energy drink do this players use during their practice and the games itself? Is it Gatorade, Activade, 100 Plus, Shark, or Extra Diyos? There may be other energy drink as well. Maybe they only use plain water. Hmmm. Well, I guess I will have to observe them then this saturday.

Don't forget to watch the games at 5Pm on RPN 9 and 7PM on BTV!!!

Let us Support our country and Pray that they win the championship!!!

Viva Pilipinas!!!

NATIONALS LEAVE FOR TOKUSHIMA READY TO WAGE WAR

MANILA – Spurred on by a nation where a Summer Games appearance was a lofty dream once, and where the politics of hatred finds momentary solace when a local athlete's pursuit of worldwide sporting excellence takes center stage, San Miguel-Team Pilipinas, the modern-day version of Jason and the Argonauts, leaves Wednesday afternoon for Tokushima, Japan to vie for the Golden Fleece – an Olympic berth in the FIBA-Asia Men's Championship.
No less than the FIBA-Asia title, or a runner-up finish to defending champion China and nobody else, will be acceptable to national coach Chot Reyes, who brought together within a five-month period, and against an array of adversities, 15 men, all but one of them PBA stars, who will wage war with the best of Asia for the chance to represent the continent to the Beijing Olympiad in August next year.Of the 15 – Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Renren Ritualo of Talk N Text, Tony de la Cruz of Alaska, Mark Caguioa, Jayjay Helterbrand and Eric Menk of Barangay Ginebra, Dondon Hontiveros and Danny Seigle of San Miguel Beer, Ranidel de Ocampo of Air21, Kerby Raymundo and James Yap of Purefoods, Kelly Williams of Sta. Lucia Realty, Mick Pennisi of Red Bull, and Gabe Norwood of George Mason U who secured his Philippine passport late Monday evening after getting clearance from the justice department earlier – three will be dropped before the Team Managers Meeting on July 27 to make way for the Final 12.The trimmed-down Nationals then embark on their quest by taking on Iran on July 28, China on July 29, and Jordan on July 30 in the preliminary round."We've done everything humanely possible to prepare for Japan," said Reyes, who talked as though he trained not players but gladiators for combat in the Roman Colosseum."It now boils down to execution, desire and pride. And prayers from the Filipino nation."PBA commissioner Noli Eala recalled the sacrifices the national team undertook from Day One."For nearly 147 days, the PBA-backed SMC-Pilipinas national team labored and sacrificed for one solitary chance of a lifetime in search of our Olympic dream," Eala said."Today, with our collective sweat and hard work as our capital, and our faith in the Almighty as our guide, we embark on a mission undaunted by the enormity of the task ahead."This is a quest to bring honor, pride and respect to 82 million basketball-loving Pinoys. With each game, we carry their dreams and their hopes, and we ask the whole nation to pray for our team."PBA chairman Ricky Vargas urged the Nationals to pour their hearts out in the fulfillment of their commitment."It is not committing to do your best that is hard, you have already done that," Vargas said. "It is living up to that commitment that is difficult. So live it up to the fullest by achieving the task ahead of you."We are proud of what you have become as a team. The impossible is possible. Let's go to the Olympics!"SMC-RP team manager Robert Non said the tournament is as much about redemption and respect as anything else."This is it, the culmination of our sacrifices and hard work for the past two year," Non said. "Now it is time for us to pray and support the SMC-Pilipinas team as our national players carry our dreams of redemption in international basketball."It's not only the championship that matters, but more importantly bringing back respect for us Filipinos."The Nationals attend one last practice at Sportskamp in The Fort Wednesday morning before proceeding to the Centennial Terminal for the 2:30 p.m. Philippine Airlines flight to Osaka.A two-hour bus ride will take them to the Tokushima Prince Hotel at around 9 p.m.

Source: http://www.pba.ph/content/view/1731/59/

Go Philippines!!! Lucia Realty's Kelly Williams and George Mason University standout Gabe Norwood, two key figures in the RP squad. The players are not allowing the suspense to get the better of their expectations."It's an exciting time for us as players, the coaching staff, the PBA, and especially the Philippines," said point guard Jimmy Alapag of the Talk N Text Phone Pals."We got a great opportunity. Hopefully, we'll reap the fruits of our labor in the last four, five months. We're just excited to get to Japan.""The team is looking good. We just need to sharpen up just a little bit before our first game," said Asi Taulava of the Phone Pals."After winning the Manila Invitational, it feels good. Malaking kumpiyansa bago kami pumunta ng Japan," said Mark Caguioa of the Barangay Ginebra Kings, adding the enormity of their task hasn't hit him yet."Hindi ko rin kasi iniisip. Mape-pressure ka lang lalo e. You're representing the country so that's already a big pressure for you, so I'm not really thinking too much about that."San Miguel's Danny Seigle, who rejoined his teammates during the Kuwait tuneup games after missing three weeks of training due to a pulled hamstring and an ankle sprain, said his injuries are healing fast."It feels pretty good and it no longer bothers me that much," said Seigle, who sat out the Busan Asian Games in 2002 because of a torn Achilles tendon. "Of course I have to work off a little bit of rust, but I'll be prepared mentally and physically come game time."Even the recent additions, Eric Menk of Ginebra, the Realtors' Williams, and James Yap of Purefoods, have put behind their individual ambitions to be part of the overall effort to send a Philippine team back to the Olympic Games basketball competition after 35 years."Of course, everyone would like to know as soon as we can, but we understand that it's kinda out of our hands," said Menk. "What's best for the team is what's best for our chances. We just have to be patient.""Regardless of what happens, we're gonna work as hard as we can, all 15 of us, up to the last day," said Williams. "We're all on the same page. It's not an individual effort but a team effort where everyone will put in 120 percent for the team.""Lahat naman dito deserving. Maraming player ang gusto masama rito at ngayong napili kami, achievement na rin ito," said Yap. "Kahit di ako makuha, okey lang dahil na-experience mo rin naman yung praktis ng RP team. Wala naman talagang mawawala sa'yo. Pag nanalo yung RP team, para na rin sa'ting lahat 'yon."The Nationals leave on the afternoon of July 25 aboard a Philippine Airlines flight that will take them to Osaka before boarding a bus for the two-and-a-half hour drive to Tokushima.

Source: http://www.pba.ph/content/view/1729/59/

GOODLUCK Y'ALL!!

Philippines Drubs Kuwait TWICE!!!

Lebanon? Syria? Kuwait? Questions regarding these Middle Eastern teams will be dealt with in due time.Right now, only one squad from that desert wind-swept region matters: Iran.Even Jordan, which San Miguel-Team Pilipinas faces after Iran and defending champion China in the preliminary round of the FIBA-Asia Men's Championship in Tokushima, Japan next week, will have to await its turn. The Nationals had put away Syria and Lebanon and its star player Fadih El Khatib in topping the Smart 4-Nation Manila Invitational Championship a week ago.And Saturday night at the Caruncho Sports Center in Pasig, SMC-Team Pilipinas handed the Kuwaiti national team a consecutive loss, 100-65, following an 84-68 beating at the Sta. Lucia East Mall gym Friday.
With all pre-war strategies mapped out, and the troops armed and ready for battle, the generals of the Philippine team tasked with sending the country back to the Olympic Games basketball competition after the last one left in 1972 in Munich now buckle down to work on how to get past the Iranians on July 28.The Chinese, possibly reinforced by Team A players after the way they were embarrassed by the Lebanese and the Syrians during the Manila Invitational, come up next for the PBA-backed squad on the 29th, followed by the burly Jordanians, who beat the Nationals in the 29th William Jones Cup tournament, on the 30th.If SMC-Team Pilipinas survives the so-called "Group of Death" and advances to the quarterfinal round, then, Lebanon, Syria and Kuwait, assuming they move on from their respective groups, may have to be taken care of.Judging from the way the Nationals carried themselves in their last tune-up game, Kuwait, if it comes up later, shouldn't be much of a problem for RP coach Chot Reyes and his staff.Gabe Norwood led the Nationals, who took a 55-21 lead at the half, with 13 points.Asi Taulava and James Yap had 12 points each, Danny Seigle 11, Mick Pennisi 10, Jayjay Helterbrand 9, Kelly Williams 7, Tony de la Cruz 6, Renren Ritualo 6, Eric Menk 4, Dondon Hontiveros 4, Jimmy Alapag 3, Mark Caguioa 2, Ranidel De Ocampo 1, and Kerby Raymundo 0.Prior to its departure on July 25, SMC-RP takes a break Sunday, returns to practice Monday morning at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center and then attends afternoon mass at the San Miguel building. The team meets at Sportskamp at The Fort on Wednesday morning before proceeding to the Centennial Terminal for the afternoon flight to Tokushima.
Source: http://www.pba.ph/content/view/1727/59/

VIVA PILIPINAS!!! Lucia East Mall. The two teams meet a second time at the Caruncho Gym in Pasig on Saturday in matches arranged by PBA governor Buddy Encarnado. The game will serve as the Nationals' final tuneup before they leave for Tokushima, Japan, on July 25, according to the RP team management Friday night.SMC-RP faces Iran on July 28, defending champion China on July 29, and Jordan on July 30 in the preliminary round of the FIBA-Asia Championships, the qualifying tournament for the Beijing Olympic to be held in August 2008.In Friday's game, the Nationals applied the finishing touches to a grueling five-month long training hampered at times by injuries and buoyed by the addition to the pool of three key players. Thus they pulled away from the Kuwaitis early in the game, taking a 46-25 halftime spread. In the FIBA-Asia Championships, Kuwait is bracketed in Group B with host Japan, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates.National coach Vincent "Chot" Reyes viewed the games more as a commitment than as part of the immediate needs of the team."The Kuwaitis are nowhere near the teams we're preparing for," Reyes said. "They are small and quick while we're getting ready for tall opponents in Group A."Danny Seigle, hobbled by a hamstring pull and later an ankle sprain that kept him from suiting up for three weeks, saw limited action for the first time."He looked good. It is just a Minor one, every time I bend or apply pressure to my left knee, I feel the pain. That is why I am having a hard time to jump sometimes. What do you think is the cause?? as of now, I've got no answer. Maybe a strained ligament or something. They said that I should get a Patella braise or something to support it. Well, I hope I get answers soon so that I'll know what to do. The pain is growing.. Oh the pain.. Well, my left knee and ankle are a bit of a problem for me. I just used wights yesterday, hoping to increase my elevation. But I think that is not a good idea. I think it is the culprit why my ankle is in a bit of pain. My left knee, on the other hand have, is also in pain every time I bend it. The pain is just right under the knee cap. I'm planning to put a knee support or a knee braise, just like what Scottie Pippen used when he still plays ball. At least I feel good today. I feel good, and I'm in shape. My stamina is A okay. I played 4 straight games last night and was still aching for more, but other players are very tired and couldn't keep up. Well, most of us are Alumni of Lourdes School of QC.

Tonight will be the start of the four Nation tourney of the Philippine Basketball team. I will support them all the way. I hope they reach the Olympics. I hope I can also watch the game live tonight at the San Juan Arena. First assignment will be against Fadi Al Khatib-led Lebanon.
Check out this forum, it talks about Team Pilipinas' progress, latest news and development, opinions, and game results. Health is an issue here. Even though I eat a lot, or always stressed out because of work, I make sure that I have a scheduled exercise. For instance, I play basketball every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Then, I have Aikido sessions every Tuesdays and Thursdays (still white belt after seven months). Very tiring isn't it. I burn my fat every day, keeping my body in shape and ready to go.

There are times when my friends and I go up to the mountain, and camp there for a couple of days. What an experience. Outing + exercise = adventure of a lifetime. I have pics of it when went up to Mt.
